What will probably be my final post

What will probably be my final post

(I wanted to use comic sans for this, oh well)

As it is now past the time for me to submit my blog for it to be marked, I would like to personally thank the people who have read my ( to be honest) horrible quality posts. I hope you enjoyed or found them useful in someway.

So, as a final thought, and because I need to do something to have a laugh, here's one of my favourite youtube videos ever :)

Path of Exile

PATH OF EXILE

Path of Exile is a game a friend has started me playing recently, and so far I'm pretty hooked on it, even though I haven't had time to play it and get far in it.

Path of Exile (POE) is a free to play top down MMORPG, supported by micro transactions. The story and game is fully accessible no matter if you are a free to play player, or a supporter of the game with micro translations, though the game may be slightly harder for the former. The games open beta was released on 23 January 2013 and the game was officially released on 23 October 2013.

The player controls a single character from an overhead perspective and explores large outdoor areas and underground caves or dungeons, battling monsters and fulfilling quests from NPCs  (non player characters) to gain experience points and equipment. The game borrows heavily from the Diablo series of games by Blizzard. All areas in the game, besides the central encampments are randomly generated for maximum playability

Path of Exile is unusual among action-RPG games in that there is no in-game currency. The game's economy is based on bartering currency items. Unlike traditional game currencies, these items have their own inherent uses (such as upgrading an item's rarity level, rerolling affixes, or improving an item's quality) and thus provide their own money sinks to prevent inflation. Most of these items are used to modify and upgrade equipment, though some identify items, create portals to town or grant skill refund points.

Leagues

The game offers several alternate play modes, or Leagues. Currently, the following leagues are available in the game:
Standard – This is the default gameplay league. Characters who die here respawn at the last checkpoint, normally where you transitioned into the area, or a waypoint, on higher difficulties you lose Exp on death

Hardcore – Characters cannot be resurrected but instead respawn back in the Standard league. This mode is analogous to permadeath in other games.

Current temporary (challenge) leagues:

Breach – Players encounter Breaches throughout the game. When touched, a Breach opens and releases a large horde of monsters for the player to fight back. Breach monsters can drop fragments of their corresponding type, and combining these fragments can lead to unique endgame boss fights that have a chance to drop powerful new unique items.
Hardcore Breach – The hardcore variant of the above challenge league.

Personal thoughts

Since I have started playing the game I have been hooked on it, the customisation options with the ingame talent tree allows for a huge number of different charter builds, the community is amazing and helpful, and for any difficulties ingame there is a party system, allowing you to team up with others to complete quests, amazing enemys, challenging fights and a decent pvp system, so overall in my opinion, a great game :)

Blizzard Ent

Blizzard Entertainment

Another of my loves over the years has been gaming, even though I have never been able to afford a powerful gaming desktop (sorry I'm not part of the pc master race), I have always been a fan of the Warcraft franchise by Blizzard. From the days of the RTS (Real time strategy) Warcraft games, right through World of Warcraft and it's expansions (FOR THE HORDE!!), and Hearthstone, it's CCG (collectable card game), Blizzard has kept me hooked in the Warcraft world,

Side note, I still need to play the other Blizzard franchises, just haven't had the time or the system to be able to sit down and play them

About Blizzard Entertainment

Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. is an American video game developer and publisher based in Irvine, California, and is currently a subsidiary of American company Activision Blizzard and was founded in 1991 by 3 UCLA grads as Silicon & Synapse. The company was founded primarily to make ports of games for other gaming studios, before in 1993 they moved onto making their own their own projects, making games like "Rock n' Roll Racing" and "The Lost Vikings".
The company went through 2 name changes in 1994, first becoming Chaos Studios, then Blizzard Entertainment, Inc.
Shortly after this, Blizz made their breakthrough game, the smash hit Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and from there went to create other hit games such as Diablo, Starcraft, Warcraft sequels, and in 2004, World of Warcraft, the most widely played MMORPGs ever (Massively multiplayer online role-playing game) ever with a peak of over 12 million subscribers and over 100 million accounts made in the games lifetime.

Personal thoughts

Even after all my years of playing video games, Blizzard still remain one of my favourite gaming studios, while there has been some bumps along the way Blizzard always come back strong, releasing stunning expansions to their games, allowing them to be played for thousands of hours while still being enjoyable for both new, and old players and would recommend that if you are thinking of a new  online game to try, give the free trails of the games on the blizzard website a try, and if you like card games, give Hearthstone a try, its free to play though be prepared to grind to get cards if you don't like the micro transaction option to get them :)

Wuxiaworld

Wuxiaworld

Yep, I wasn't kidding when I said I was going off topic.
During the last 10 years or so of my life I have been an avid reader of Japanese mangas and a watcher of anime, I'd spend alot of time reading and watching new series and enjoying the various art styles, plots (which sometime so way out of hand), characters and stories. During the course of doing this about a year and a half ago I discovered a chinese webtoon/comic of a wuxia light novel, this was "Tales of Demons and Gods". And so began my new found love affair with Wuxias

What is a Wuxia?

noun A genre of Chinese fiction or cinema featuring itinerant warriors of ancient China, often depicted as capable of superhuman feats of martial arts.

Now, as I have found something like this, there was one small issue, well, it's actually rather large and pretty simple... I CAN'T READ OR SPEAK CHINESE". Normally this would lead me to have to give up on my hopes of reading these sort of light novels, however thankfully, some wonderful person decided to post a link to a website in the comments section of the comic, this link was for wuxiaworld

What is Wuxiaworld

Founded by RWX, a passionate fan of Wuxia novels in 2014 the site quickly rose to prominence as the largest Chinese-to-English novel translation platform in the world and is ranked in the top 2000 US webpages and has millions of page views each day.

The translations on the site are all done by fans of each novel, in their own free time. There are currently 17 translators/teams translating a total of 23 ongoing novels, and have already completed the translation of another 7 finished novels.

Wuxiaworld enjoys a strong, collaborative relationship with original rights holders such as 17k.com, and hope to be expanding into the e-publishing business soon. The translators of Wuxiaworld are driven by an abiding passion for Chinese fiction, and continue to look for more opportunities to expand the reach of popular Chinese culture and fiction into the Western world.

I personally love the site myself and would recommend that anyone who has an interest in chinese fiction give it a view  :)

Update to blog direction

Hello to anyone reading this

I'm Eoin, the person behind this blog. When I started this blog I originally had a clear direction as to where I wanted to go with my blog posts, posting what I found to be interesting new technologies that have been/soon to be released. This is for a module I have to do for college called IT Professional skills, a module consisting of blog writing, reports, and presentations.

As there are actually people viewing my blog, which I did not expect at all, I decided to write this post.

A bit of background on myself, I'm a 25 year old software development student, I have been to 3 colleges previous to the one I am currently attending, two of which I had to drop out of in my first year due to multiple issues with my physical and mental health (For those who are interested, the conditions are Diabetes, Depression and Anxiety for the most part). I am currently in my second year (finally) after repeating some first year modules which I had failed, again due to health issues.

Now back to the subject of this blog and the subject in general. I find it extremely difficult due to my anxiety to complete, the thought of people actually reading the stuff I post is extremely nerve shaking, even now, writing this post is pushing me to my limits. The blog itself is due to be evaluated today at 5pm GMT, and is supposed to have 12 posts, currently, including this, I have 4 done. This is mainly due to the fact that over the Christmas period when I was ment to be catching up on it I was completely incapacitated, I spent most of the Christmas and New year holiday closed up in my bedroom, barely leaving the bed, either crippled by my depression and my family circumstances, or sick with the cold.

Right now I am at my limits, however, as there are actually people viewing my posts, I'm actually going to write a few posts about things I actually like for the next hour or so, I've already given up on passing this subject, so the posts may be completely off topic then the first few, I hope you enjoy, and feel free to comment on this if you wish :)

Thank you for taking your time to read this

Eoin

Canary Home Security

The Canary, All in 1 Home Security system

This is the Canary, an all in 1 home security system

Doesn't look like much, but this device is a lot more then meets the eye. This stand alone box includes a HD camera, siren, and temperature, humidity, and air quality detectors, allowing you to monitor your home.
The box is simply to set up, simply download the app on your smart phone, set the box on a flat surface, plug it in and connect it to the internet and you are ready to roll.

Once the Canary has sensed you have left the house it will enter "Away" mode. In this mode, the moment it's camera senses movement it will begin recording, and will send an alert of activity to your device. From your device you will be able to see the live feed of the video, and if there is an intruder, you may directly contact the emergency services (Canary automatically pulls in contacts for police, fire and EMS closest to your home, giving you one touch access to the proper authorities) , or sound a 90db Siren to attempt to scare off the intruder.

The video recorded are encrypted and sent to the Canary Cloud where they are temporarily stored. You can easily access these videos in the Canary app where they're securely streamed from the cloud.

HAPI Fork

The HAPI Fork

What is it?

The HAPI fork is an electronic fork that helps you monitor and track your eating habits, and is able to alert you, with the help of indicator lights and gentle vibrations when you are eating too fast. Every time you bring the food from your plate to your mouth with the fork it is measured by the HAPI fork, this action is called a "Fork Serving". The HAPI fork also measures:
  • How long it took to eat your meal.
  • The amount of "fork servings" taken per minute,
  • The intervals between "fork servings".
This information is then uploaded via USB or Bluetooth to your Online Dashboard on HAPI.com to track your progress. The HAPI fork also comes with an app plus a coaching program to help improve your eating behavior.

With the app you are able to :
  • See your meal stats in real time,
  • Check your time in between your "fork servings"
  • Upload all your data wirelessly
